Detailed Itinerary:

Day 1: Kigali – Volcanoes National Park – Gorilla Trekking – Kigali

The day begins early in Kigali, when the sky still streaked with the soft pinks and golds of dawn. Your guide is waiting with the ready vehicle. By 3am, you start a drive to Volcanoes National Park takes about two and a half hours, passing through rolling hills, small villages, and fields where farmers work in the cool morning air.

As soon as you arrive, go straight to the park headquarters as the rangers guides gather the group for a briefing. Their instructions are clear — respect the gorillas, keep your distance, and stay quiet. The air is heavy with anticipation but, you later depart for the forest hunt.

The trek begins. Each step sinks into the soft forest floor, the air cool and damp with the scent of wet leaves. The path winds through bamboo thickets, the light dim and filtered. Your guide pauses, his hand raised. A sound echoes through the trees low, guttural, close.

A silverback emerges, his massive frame moving through the foliage with quiet power. A young juvenile follows, eyes wide, clinging to his mother’s leg. For one hour, you stand and watch as they move, play, rest. Each gesture is a silent conversation, each glance a reminder of how close we are.

Time slips by too quickly. The ranger signals it’s time to go. The trek back feels shorter, each step bringing you closer to the end of this fleeting, profound encounter.

Lunch is served at a nearby lodge a quick meal to refuel before the drive back to Kigali. The journey is quiet, each mile a chance to replay the morning’s encounter, to hold onto the memory of those eyes watching you through the mist.

In the late afternoon, Kigali’s streets are bustling, the city alive with the sounds of evening. Your guide drops you at your hotel or the airport, the day a whirlwind of forest trails, silverback stares, and the quiet power of Rwanda’s wild heart.
